What to Expect

Every birth experience is unique and special, and at Piedmont, we’re passionate about creating an experience that is customized to meet the personal needs of expectant moms and their families. At Piedmont, your family is our family.

For vaginal deliveries, you’ll enjoy the experience of delivering in one of our spacious and well-appointed Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) rooms. Each LDR is fully-equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, private bathrooms, and a sleeping couch for dads.

For cesarean deliveries, Piedmont has dedicated operating rooms located in the labor and delivery area. Our top-notch team of obstetricians, anesthesiologists and nurses will provide you with excellent, comprehensive care. You will recover in a special recovery area, which allows you to remain with your baby and spouse / partner prior to settling in to your post-partum room.

After Baby Arrives

Following the birth of your child, you will be moved into a post-partum room for rest and recovery. To ensure mom and baby have as much bonding time as possible, newborns are placed in the same room as their mothers and are cared for jointly by one nurse. Rest is also critical to a healthy recovery and nursery care for your baby is always available.

Lactation Support

Breastfeeding is an important part of any new parent’s overall childbirth experience, and Piedmont lactation consultants are among the best in the field.

In preparation for delivery, we offer prenatal breastfeeding classes to discuss various techniques and suggestions. View a list of our latest class schedules.

During your in-hospital stay, our registered nurses are available around the clock to support you with your breastfeeding needs. For more challenging cases, our certified lactation specialists can provide additional support in the art and science of lactation. As for breast-feeding product needs, some of our hospitals can assist with:

  • Breast pump rentals
  • Retail sales of breast-feeding pumps and accessories
  • Bedside delivery of products during your in-hospital stay
