Woman's Auxiliary at Piedmont Atlanta

The Woman’s Auxiliary was established in 1957 and has been an invaluable resource to Piedmont Atlanta. In addition to operating the gift shop, the Auxiliary coordinates selfless volunteers who serve throughout the hospital in the following areas:

  • Gift Shop - With the assistance of the manager, volunteers staff the gift shop Monday-Friday. There are 2 four-hour shifts: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Volunteers are responsible for opening and closing the shop, operating the cash register, giving courteous service and restocking merchandise.
  • Cheer Cart - The cheer cart services each floor of the hospital Monday-Friday. The time required is about three hours beginning at 9a.m. Volunteers come in contact with patients, visitors and nursing personnel.
  • Oasis (Older Adult Service Inpatient Strategies) - Volunteers work on a one-on-one basis with the patient by helping with meals, reading and visiting. The shifts are Monday-Sunday. Hours are flexible.
  • ICU waiting - Volunteers update the Visitor’s Board as well as comfort and assist families of critically ill patients, answer the phone, take messages and maintain the neatness of the waiting room. There are 2 four-hour shifts, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Weekend shifts are also available.
  • Surgical waiting - Volunteers walk the patients and families to Pre-Op and PACU. They also help the families with their lockers, meet the patient in the admission area to go to Pre-Op, and take families back to the patients when they are prepped for surgery. Shifts are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • Flower delivery - Volunteers are responsible for signing flowers into the hospital and delivering the flowers to the patients rooms. Shifts are Monday-Saturday, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Sixty Plus - Volunteers greet people when they come into the 60+ office. They take information and get them in touch with a 60+ staff member. Volunteers may occasionally assist with assembling folders, making copies, mailing out correspondence and tracking survey results. Shifts are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
