Piedmont Athens Regional Visitor Information

Visitor Policy Guidelines (Updated July 15, 2020)

We encourage you to use digital resources connect with your loved ones in the hospital and to assist them in their care. Below are free resources that are available to use.

Virtual Visiting Resources


In light of COVID-19’s sustained community transmission of a serious infectious agent, visitation is restricted as follows:

  • One (1) visitor is permitted as follows:
    • One (1) person is permitted as a visitor for an Emergency Department patient’s visit.
    • One (1) person is permitted as a visitor for procedures, surgery, end-of-life, labor and delivery support, legal guardians and to accompany patients requiring assistance in navigating their visit for the inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • One (1) person is allowed per patient during their hospital visit or stay. Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Patients are encouraged to use electronic means of visitation such as video call applications on cell phone or tablets.
    • Minors are not allowed (Under 18)
    • No visitors will be allowed to enter the room of a COVID-19 confirmed case or a patient under investigation (PUI).
    • No visitors will be allowed in the room during aerosol producing procedures.
    • Any person who has an increased risk from chronic conditions or comorbidities are advised not to visit.
  • All approved visitors need to follow the safety guidelines:
    • All visitors must pass the health/quarantine screen. Any visitor who does not pass the health screen will be required to leave the facility.
    • All visitors should follow respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette precautions.
    • All visitors must wear a face mask at all times.
    • All visitors should limit their movement within facility to decrease interaction with staff and the public.
    • Visitors with exposure to known or suspected COVID-19 patient should be advised to report any signs or symptoms of acute illness to their healthcare provider for a period of at least 14 days after the last known exposure to the sick patient.
  • Additional restrictions for Piedmont Healthcare (PHC) ambulatory visits:
    • Approved visitors may accompany the patient in the patient’s treatment room and must wear a face mask; however, they can not be present in the patient’s room during aerosol producing procedures.
    • All other visitors must remain in the car outside of the waiting area.

All workforce screened prior to start of workday/assigned shift at entrance, or upon reporting to their work unit/department, via temperature or via signs/symptoms quarantine screen that may include a temperature check as needed.

Visiting Hours

To make sure our patients have adequate rest for recovery in a quiet and safe environment, we welcome visitors from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. daily, with the following exceptions:

  • Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby: A significant other or support person may be present anytime, must wear an identification bracelet that matches the mother and baby's bracelet.
  • Pediatrics: Any time: Only banded parents allowed.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care: Only Banded Individuals may visit any time except 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Guidelines for Visitors

  • People with colds, sore throats or any contagious disease should not visit patients.
  • Visitors must dress appropriately and must wear shirts and shoes.
  • Please keep visits short and quiet as possible.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during baths, treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.
  • A patient's doctor may restrict visiting hours, depending on situation.

For the safety of our patients, access to our hospital is limited at night. Talmadge Entrances close at 7:00 p.m. and reopen at 5:00 a.m. Monday – Friday and 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. on the weekend. All entry to the hospital after 7:00 p.m. must go through the Emergency Department entrance and go through the visitor screening process and will be limited to family members and/or significant others.

Chaplains and Healing Places

Located on the first floor near the Prince Tower Lobby elevators, our Interfaith Chapel is open 24 hours a day. We also offer a Community Garden along Talmadge Drive across from the Medical Services Building. The Piedmont Athens Regional Auxiliary Healing Garden behind the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support on Talmadge Drive is also a beautiful space.

Guest Ambassadors

Ambassadors at our information desks are there to help you with directions, phone numbers and general questions. 


Piedmont Athens Regional provides free Language Services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We utilize Stratus Video Interpretation Services for hearing impaired and other foreign language interpretation. Contact Patient Experience at 706-475-3397.

Lost and Found

If you lose any valuables during your visit with us, call 706-475-5246 or 706-475-5064.

Overnight Accommodations - The Guest Houses

The Guest Houses provide a supportive environment for families to be close to their loved ones at a reasonable price. We offer suites with private bath, television and free Wi-Fi, free on-site parking for one car per room.

Patient Representatives

Our Patient Experience Representatives provide support to patients and their families. We strive to provide excellent care and value your thoughts about your experience with us. Pet Therapy

Our Pet Therapy program promotes healing through the comfort and ease the dogs bring to patients. Emma, Maggie and Harley are three dogs who help our hospital. They are certified through Therapy Dogs International and are available to visit patients during a set time one day each week. For more information about our Pet Therapy program or to receive a special visit, contact our Patient Experience Department at 706-475-3397.


Our retail pharmacy is near our gift shop in the Prince 1 Tower. Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m.

Public Safety

Our Public Safety team offers escorts to and from parking areas and buildings on the Piedmont Athens Regional campus and can help with minor vehicle issues like dead batteries. We also store valuables in a secured area at the request of patients. To reach Public Safety, call 706-475-4444 if you're calling from within the hospital.

The Dogwood Bistro Cafeteria
Our cafeteria -- The Dogwood Bistro -- is on the basement floor of Talmadge Tower 1.
Breakfast Hours -- 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Lunch Hours -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dinner Hours -- 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Overnight Hours -- 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Dogwood Deli

Our Dogwood Deli on the first floor of Prince Tower and offers a selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Vending machine locations include:

  • Atrium, Prince Tower 2, Third Floor
  • Family Waiting Area, Prince Tower 1, Sixth Floor
  • General Surgery Waiting Area, Talmadge Tower, Second Floor

Gift Shop - The Pink Posy

Located across from the Dogwood Deli between the Prince 1 Tower and Prince 2 Tower entrances, our gift shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturdays from Noon to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. To order over the phone or verify holiday hours, call 706-475-3414.

Contacting a Patient

Flowers and Mail

Flowers will be delivered to patients' rooms by area florists during the day. Patients in the Intensive Care Units may not have flowers or balloons in their rooms. Mail will be delivered Monday through Saturday and forwarded to patients after they leave. To mail a patient at Piedmont Athens Regional, use the address 1199 Prince Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30606-2793.

Phone Calls to Patient Rooms

Patients may receive calls in their rooms from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. To reach a patient, dial 706-475-room number (except in Labor and Delivery). If you do not know the room number, call 706-475-3642 and the Information Desk will transfer the call.
