2019 Hot Topics Lectures – Available on-line for CME Credit!

If you were unable to join us for the Hot Topics Conference in May, 2019, we are pleased to announce that you can view the lectures on Piedmont University for CME credit. Each lecture is eligible for 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1TM credit upon successful completion. Simply log onto Piedmont University (instructions found below), select the desired lecture(s), enroll in the course, and you are good to go. Each course takes approximately 35 minutes to complete.

2019 Hot Topics: Artificial Intelligence in Medicine – Ethical Considerations

This course features the lecture by Kyle Galbraith, PhD from Piedmont Athens Regional from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity will address the expanding role of artificial intelligence in healthcare and discuss the ethical implications of its use.

2019 Hot Topics: Healthism – Health Status Discrimination and the Law

This course features the lecture by Elizabeth Weeks, JD from the University of Georgia School of Law from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity includes analysis of when and why discrimination based on health status should and should not be allowed.

2019 Hot Topics: Human Trafficking Meets Healthcare – An Opportunity for Intervention

This course features the lecture by Jordan Greenbaum, MD of the Institute on Healthcare and Human Trafficking at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity provides an overview of human trafficking and how health care professionals can recognize and intervene in cases of suspected trafficking.

This activity will introduce some important issues in medical marijuana including the recreational vs. medical use, the benefit vs. harm, and state vs. federal laws.

This course features a lecture by Steven Stice, PhD from the Regenerative Bioscience Center at the University of Georgia from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity will introduce cutting edge research in the use of neural stem cells as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative disorders in animal models and its potential application to human medicine.

2019 Hot Topics: What Providers Need to Know About Outpatient Quality Measures

This course features the lecture by Thomas Wells, MD from Piedmont Physicians Group from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity will explain the history of healthcare quality and the direction that issue will take in the next 2-5 years and what providers will need to do to be successful in the new environment.

Hot Topics: Caring for Transgender Patients – A Beginner’s Guide

This course features the lecture by Jenny Wares, MD of the University of Georgia University Health Center from the 2019 Hot Topics conference held at Piedmont Athens Regional. This activity will introduce some important considerations in the standards of care for the health of transsexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming people.
