Why is an updated vaccine needed?
Data has shown that COVID-19 vaccines may lose some of their effectiveness over time. Updated vaccines provide additional, longer-lasting immunity.
Can I mix and match COVID-19 vaccines?
Yes. All three vaccines currently available (Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax) can be used as your updated vaccine of choice regardless of the manufacturer of your choice of previous Covid vaccines. Novavax can only be used as an updated vaccine in those 12 and older.
Is there a difference between the first two shots and the updated vaccine shot?
Yes. The updated vaccines have all been specifically formulated against the currently circulating variants of the XBB arm of the Omicron family. The earlier vaccines were not specific to this season.
Where can I go to receive an updated vaccine shot?
Most pharmacies offer the new Moderna, Pfizer and Novavax updated vaccines.
Will the updated vaccine shot cost anything?
No. Currently, the updated vaccine shot, like the COVID-19 vaccine, will not cost anything. This is subject to change based on the determination of the US Government.
