Overview
The Piedmont Women’s Heart program is a holistic wellness program that aims to prevent the onset and support those with cardiovascular disease through high-caliber education and wellness coaching. We target health, nutrition (nourish), stress resilience (flourish) and intentional movement (thrive). Women's Heart is a free program that relies on philanthropic support to promote equity and access for all women.
Class descriptions
Adaptive Yoga
Adaptive Yoga, led weekly by Amanda Burtch, a registered yoga therapist, is a gentle class designed to cater to each student’s individual abilities. The teacher adapts poses and practices to ensure a comfortable and supportive experience for everyone, regardless of their skill level or physical condition. This inclusive approach promotes relaxation, flexibility, and overall well-being in a nurturing environment.
Breathe and Flow (Qi Gong)
Qi Gong is a bi-weekly ancient Chinese practice that uses flowing movements, breathing techniques, and meditation to balance vital energy, or "Qi," promoting physical health, mental clarity, and emotional well-being for all ages. Our classes, led by Avril James, include the "8 Pieces of Brocade" (Ba Duan Jin) on Mondays, featuring eight simple exercises for relaxation and flexibility, and the "18 Forms" (18 Taiji Forms) on Fridays, which emphasize balance and coordination through more complex movements.
Breathwork
Join Robin Raflo for Breathwork on the third Wednesday of every month. This ancient practice uses conscious circular breathing to clear emotional blocks and stagnant energy, enhancing oxygen circulation and activating brain areas. Experience physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation as you dissolve limiting beliefs and improve mood and stress levels.
Deep House (Dance Cardio)
Exercise expert Catt Jordan leads this free-flow dance cardio class you can burn calories, break a sweat, improve your coordination, or just let loose; this session has it all. Follow along, enjoy the music, and let the good vibes take over!
Deep Rest (Yoga Nidra)
Yoga Nidra is a systemic relaxation practice performed lying down, it encourages the body to enter a very deep state of rest, akin to sleep. On the fourth Tuesday of every month join Avril James for profound nervous system balancing and rejuvenation. Participants will access a state of calm and balance.
EZ Walking Club
Piedmont Women’s Heart Program invites you to a brisk stroll through various locations throughout the metro. Our volunteer ambassadors lead most walks. Let us know if you want to facilitate a walk, too.
Guided Meditation
Avril James leads a bi-weekly 30-minute guided meditation from the Himalayan Tradition, featuring alternate nostril breathing, body scan, diaphragmatic breathing, spinal breathing, anchoring at the nostrils, and periods of silence. This practice fosters relaxation and mindfulness, enhancing participants' inner peace.
HeartWise Conversations
On the second Wednesday of every month, Piedmont Women’s Heart Program hosts a virtual talk with a physician, clinician, or other Piedmont expert on health trends, the latest best practices, and a treasure trove of what you need to know to be in the know. Classes are recorded; register and watch live or at your leisure.
HIKE Club
Piedmont Women’s Heart Program traverses the greater metro area to find the best hiking gems. We invite you to join us for moderate-intensity escapades (from 2 to 5 miles) led by exercise physiologists. Hiking is best in a group for safety and camaraderie. This is a great way to get exercise and time in nature. Hike details are available on the registration platform.
Novel Ladies Society Club
Piedmont Women’s Heart Program hosts a light and leisurely fiction book club led by ambassadors Gina Martin and Tonya Curry. We connect for fun, engagement, and inspiration.
Nutrition Bites
On the second Friday of every month, we invite you to join Kenna Glick for a 30-minute micro-workshop. She will equip you with fresh insights into various ingredients and all things nutrition-related! We invite you to learn and have fun! Classes are recorded; register and watch live or at your leisure.
Pilates
Pilates is a weekly floor-based exercise program designed to help you move with intent while respecting your body’s abilities and current state. Pilates expert Maria Angelova will guide you to move safely, balance, align, increase strength, improve flexibility, enhance endurance, and generate tone.
Pure Tone (Strength and Conditioning)
Pure Tone is a moderate whole-body workout led by exercise expert Catt Jordan. During the class, participants will enjoy upbeat music while working on conditioning, toning, range of motion flexibility, and strengthening the whole body.
Whole Body Flow (Qi Gong)
Avril James leads a weekly free-form whole body Qi Gong class which emphasizes energy flow, relaxation, and mindfulness through a flexible approach. It begins with gentle warm-ups and includes diverse movements that promote flexibility, with integrated breathwork and relaxation. This supportive environment allows participants of all levels to practice at their own pace, promoting overall well-being.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga, led weekly by Jill Elkin, is a gentle practice that emphasizes long-held postures to target deep connective tissues and promote relaxation. This mindful approach enhances flexibility and breath, creating a calming environment suitable for all levels. Jill's guidance fosters both physical and emotional healing.
