Minimally invasive care options

Catheter-based treatments mean a faster recovery, often with the option of same-day discharge from the hospital.

Total occlusion treatment

Piedmont Heart is one of the highest-volume centers for treating chronic total occlusions (CTOs).

While needing treatment for a heart condition can be stressful, our mission is to help you feel understood, supported and empowered by your treatment options. As a leading destination for minimally invasive cardiology procedures, we offer easy access to quality care close to home.

A multidisciplinary treatment approach

Our heart team works together to personalize your care, applying state-of-the-art research to help choose the best method to treat your heart condition. We also collaborate with our heart surgery team to provide not just one opinion but several options to enable you to have the best possible outcome.

The benefits of minimally invasive heart treatments

With catheter-based (minimally invasive) treatments instead of open surgery, the doctor inserts a small tube into an artery, avoiding the need for long incisions. This method is typically less painful, less risky, and you are often able to go home the same day.

Advancing the field of interventional cardiology

Our team at Piedmont Heart Institute is transforming heart care and leading the way for an improved interventional approach to care. For example, Piedmont is an early adopter of the radial artery in the wrist approach in several therapies. Accessing the artery in the wrist, instead of the femoral artery in the thigh, lowers the risk of bleeding, improves mobility and enhances comfort. It also permits many of our patients to be discharged on the same day.

Our team is also helping to advance the field of interventional cardiology through research and clinical trials, serving as thought leaders in professional societies and training the next generation of interventional cardiologists. Many of these elite team members have been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for their expertise, experience and dedication to interventional cardiology.

Interventional clinical innovations

Piedmont Heart Institute is one of the highest-volume centers in the world for chronic total occlusions (CTOs). CTOs are coronary arteries that have been blocked for more than six months. Though often asymptomatic, in some individuals, they lead to disabling chest pain and decreased quality of life. We have been recognized as a world leader in CTO revascularization. We proudly serve as a training site for other interventional cardiologists who wish to learn these advanced techniques.
