Care Partner Policy (Updated October 5, 2022)

A Care Partner may be a relative, partner, friend or anyone (over age 16) that the patient chooses to have at their side during care. A Care Partner takes an active role in caring for their loved one in the hospital.

We encourage you to use digital resources to connect with your loved ones in the hospital and to assist them in their care. Below are free resources that are available to use.

Virtual Visiting Resources

Effective October 5, 2022, visitors under the age of 16 are not routinely allowed, unless an exception is approved by the relevant unit/department leader or Patient Experience/Nursing Supervisor.

  • We encourage no more than two visitors in a room at a time during the routine visiting hours from 7am-  -7pm (some units may have more restrictive hours). Overnight visitors are allowed in certain units but the visitors must be present prior to the end of visiting hours at 9pm.
  • Waiting rooms may re-open but social distancing between families will be expected.
  • For visitor issues (disrespectful behavior, non-compliance with mask wearing, not adhering to visiting hours) call 4444 for help deescalating issue and expectation setting or removing the visitor from the facility.
  • For End of Life visitation, contact Patient Experience (3395) or Public Safety (3838) if crowd management is needed.

Some departments have limitations to visitation hours and/or number of support persons allowed per patient:

Location Visitor Policy
In-Patient Infectious COVID patients (less than 10 day criteria) • One visitor per patient. Must stay in the patient’s room and use proper PPE.
Emergency Department • Two visitors per patient
• Visitors under 16 by exception only.
• Visitors may be allowed to swap out as long as there are only 2 in the ED treatment room.
• Hallway patients will be limited 1 visitor due to availability of space.
• No visitors will be allowed to wait in the waiting room once the patient is in the room.
• Visitors may wait in the WR if the patient is also waiting in the WR.
• COVID patients may have 1 visitor. This visitor must remain in the room at all times and should not swap out.
• Any exceptions to these guidelines should be directed to the PAC. If the PAC is unavailable, all exceptions will be made to the Flow Coordinator at ext. 2442.
Women’s Services • Visitation guidelines vary by department
• Siblings allowed in FCC and Pediatrics

All workforce are screened prior to the start of the workday/assigned shift at entrance, or upon reporting to their work unit/department, via temperature or via signs/symptoms quarantine screen that may include a temperature check as needed.
