Lung Scan
What is a lung scan?
A lung scan is a special nuclear medicine X-ray used to detect blood clots or diminished blood flow in the lungs. The test is performed at one of our Piedmont Healthcare facilities in two parts with each requiring the use of a radioactive "tracer" that will make any abnormalities more visible.
You will have an IV inserted in your hand or lower arm in order to inject the radioactive "isotope." Then a series of X-rays will be taken to determine if there is adequate air and blood flow to the lungs.
