Overview

Piedmont Rockdale is honored to welcome adult members of the community to volunteer their time. Our adult volunteer group is called the Piedmont Rockdale Auxiliary. Volunteers serve at our entrance and guest services areas, information desk, golf cart drivers, and some specialty departments. Our hope is that you choose to volunteer with us for at least one year, but we do require that volunteers make at least a six (6)-month commitment. Once your application has been received, you will be contacted by Volunteer Services to review volunteer requirements and opportunities. Currently, our greatest needs are at our Entrance/Guest Services Desks and Golf Cart Drivers.

Requirements of accepted applicants

You must attend quarterly Auxiliary membership meetings, held on the second Tuesday of March, June, September and December at 11 a.m. At your first meeting, you will:

Meet other Auxiliary members.
Undergo a background check.
Visit with our Employee Health Department to verify your immunity to mumps, measles, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) and tuberculosis (TB).
Complete required annual training .
Schedule training and start dates with other Auxiliary Board.
Complete your badging process.
Receive your volunteer Auxiliary uniform.

Volunteers are required to obtain an influenza (flu) vaccine each respiratory virus season (September-March). Anyone who is not vaccinated for flu will be required to wear a mask when inside a Piedmont facility during respiratory virus seasons.

All volunteers are required to provide proof of immunization for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella, and Influenza (during flu season). Volunteers are also required to complete two TB skin tests.
Volunteers are required to attend an orientation, but no special training is needed to get involved. Applications are reviewed and volunteer’s talents, schedule, and hospital availabilities are matched. Most volunteers serve approximately four hours a week. Additional hours are always welcome!

No. Our volunteers go through a lengthy training process to meet federal requirements for hospital volunteers. As such, it's not possible for us to accommodate short-term volunteer requests.
The hospital desires punctual, dependable, friendly, and committed individuals who can help patients, families, visitors, and staff in a variety of ways. All volunteers are expected to dress professionally and in volunteer uniform and follow any department-specific dress codes. If volunteers cannot meet and/or comply with the policies, procedures, and expectations of the hospital, their service will be reviewed.
Volunteers are a critical member of Piedmont Rockdale’s family. Their presence brings a level of warmth, compassion, and humanity that makes a tangible difference for our patients, families, and staff. Whether through simple conversations, acts of kindness, or just being a calming and reassuring presence, the volunteers help create an environment that feels more supportive and healing during what can often be very difficult moments.

Some volunteers use this time to explore new career options and use their experience for further education or employment opportunities. Volunteering has been shown to increase self-confidence, combat depression, and help people stay physically active.
