The Outpatient Infusion Center is located at the Piedmont Hospital Outpatient Center in the Piedmont West Medical Office Park at: 1800 Howell Mill Road, Suite 750, Atlanta, GA 30318. The center is open Monday through Friday and needs volunteers who have a pleasing personality, good people skills, and possess the ability to please others. The greatest time of need is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Greeting patients
- Escorting patients to the treatment area
- Assisting with comfort measures
- Being a goodwill ambassador
- Assisting with preparing patient chair for the next patient
- Offering refreshment
- Being someone to talk to
Volunteers may have to push a patient in a wheelchair on rare occasions. Chemotherapy is administered in this department, but guidelines are followed for personal protection and safe handling of chemotherapy agents. It would be an almost non-existent chance that a volunteer would run the risk of coming into contact with any chemotherapy agent.
Adults and teens are welcome to volunteer in the Outpatient Infusion Center. It would be a great opportunity for a teenager who is thinking of attending nursing school. It is a great chance to learn how to handle patients and how to talk to them.
