Updated vaccines

Overview
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have approved updated vaccines for the Fall 2023 season.
- Adults 18 years and older with the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines should receive an updated vaccine at least 5 months from completion of your last Covid-19 dose.
- Also, the following updated vaccines are approved for those 12 years and older: Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax.
- The following updated vaccines are authorized for ages 6 months to 11 years of age: Moderna and Pfizer.
If you received Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson’s Janssen
If you are 18 years or older, you may choose which COVID-19 vaccine you receive as an updated vaccine, the CDC says. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different updated vaccine. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for updated Covid-19 vaccines. Although you will not be able to receive the Johnson and Johnson vaccine as an option for an updated vaccine, the Novavax vaccine option is available for everyone, and is not a mRNA vaccine.
