Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is a specialty involving evaluating and treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The goal is to restore the safest functional independence to each individual person. To achieve this goal, physical modalities such as exercise, gait and balance activities, manual therapy techniques, ultrasound, thermotherapy, electrotherapy and neuromuscular re-education are utilized.
Physical Therapy is useful in treating:
- Acute and chronic pain
- Fall risk and balance rehabilitation
- Joint and ligament sprains
- Neurological injuries (such as a stroke)
- Orthopedic conditions
- Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Post-surgical intervention (after a knee or hip replacement, ACL reconstruction or rotator cuff repair)
- Vestibular rehabilitation
Your physical therapist will evaluate your condition, then develop and manage your plan of care, customizing to your individual needs. Through patient and therapist interaction, physical therapy can help restore movement and function, helping patients return to their prior level of independence. Treatment and diagnostic programs vary by location.
