Piedmont Walton seeks First Friday Hero nominations honoring local first responders

Monroe, Ga. (January 20, 2026) - Piedmont Walton Hospital is inviting the community to submit nominations for its First Friday Hero recognition award, a program that honors first responders in Walton County and surrounding communities who demonstrate exceptional service, bravery and commitment beyond the call of duty.

“First responders are essential partners in the care we provide, and their dedication often extends far beyond what the public sees,” said Courtney Heffner, RN, emergency department flow coordinator and First Friday Hero program lead at Piedmont Walton. “This program allows us to highlight those extraordinary efforts and thank the individuals who consistently put others first.”

Now entering its third year, the First Friday Hero program recognizes first responders whose actions make a positive difference in the lives of patients, families and the broader community.

Nominations are accepted year-round, with one honoree selected each quarter. Honorees are recognized by Piedmont Walton and featured on the First Friday Heroes display wall located in the Emergency Department waiting area. The display includes a photo of the honoree and a summary of the nomination describing their service and impact.

How to nominate

Community members, coworkers and agency leaders are encouraged to nominate deserving first responders by submitting the following information via email to firstfridayherowalton@piedmont.org:

• Your name and contact information
• The nominee’s name
• The first responder’s agency or department
• Agency contact information
• A brief description explaining why the nominee should be recognized as a First Friday Hero
