PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Piedmont Atlanta

Overview

A PGY-1 residency builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop clinical pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to assume the responsibility of complex medication-related care. The residency program starts with hospital orientation in mid-June.

Program goals

The PGY-1 pharmacy residency strives to provide high-quality didactic and clinical experiences essential for the development of a well-rounded and competent clinical pharmacist.

As a Piedmont pharmacy resident, you will:

  • Manage and enhance the medication-use process
  • Provide evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams
  • Exercise leadership and practice management skills
  • Demonstrate project management capabilities
  • Provide medication and practice-related education and training to patients, hospital staff and students
  • Exhibit additional competencies that contribute to working successfully in the healthcare environment
  • Develop teaching skills by participating in precepting of pharmacy students

Program curriculum

Program prerequisites

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia
    • Residents must be licensed in the state of Georgia within 90 days of starting the residency program.
  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • Current registration with ASHP Matching Program
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Clear health screen

Program application requirements

All applicants must register with Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application PhORCAS and provide the following:

  • A letter of intent describing the applicant’s interest in pursuing a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Three letters of recommendation
    • At least two should be from pharmacists who can speak to clinical decision making skills
    • Please ensure the letter writers provide ratings & comments for at least 6 outlined attributes on the PhorCAS application
  • Official pharmacy school transcripts
