If you or a loved one is an older adult who needs inpatient behavioral health care, our team is here to provide safe, comprehensive therapies tailored to the unique needs of older adults.
Why Piedmont

Specialized training

Comprehensive care

Family and caregiver support
At Piedmont Eastside South Campus, our geriatric care units provide a secure inpatient psychiatric facility for the treatment of older adults experiencing acute behavioral health symptoms, such as:
- Confusion
- Depression
- Memory loss
- Mood swings
- Anxiety
- Frequent medical problems
- Withdrawal or isolation from others
- Suicidal thoughts
Our goal is to help our patients and their families learn new problem-solving and interpersonal skills and to support them through the challenges associated with later life. Our staff is trained to use evidence-based practices to help our patients cope with life changes, with a focus on planning to continue the recovery process after discharge from the inpatient hospital stay.
Our team
The treatment team consists of:
- Attending psychiatrists
- Staff nurses
- Technicians
- Therapists and counselors
Other consultants deemed necessary by the treatment team
All team members have specialized training in caring for older adults and their unique needs. They work together to provide an environment where the patient and their family can work most effectively on specific treatment goals.
Since we are located at a full-service medical facility, our patients also have access to consultations with other medical specialists for non-psychiatric medical needs. Piedmont Eastside is one of the only inpatient mental health hospitals in Metro Atlanta that offers individual physical therapy and occupational therapy evaluations and services to all patients within 48 hours of their arrival to our behavioral health unit.
A collaborative approach
Our inpatient treatment team works closely with outpatient behavioral health services, local mental health centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospice providers and other treatment resources to ensure our patients have access to comprehensive community-based care after they leave the hospital.

Individualized treatment plans are designed to meet each patient's specific needs. The program is also designed to support family members and educate them on how they can be part of the ongoing treatment process
