Zack Wolf named Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Athlete of the Month

Athens, Ga. (February 6, 2026) - Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine has named Zack Wolf, a senior football player at George Walton Academy, as its Athlete of the Month in recognition of his resilience, commitment to rehabilitation, and standout performance during his final high school season.
Wolf, who has played football since the age of 5, serves as both running back and outside linebacker for George Walton Academy. His senior season was threatened when he suffered an ankle sprain during a game after another player landed on his ankle at an awkward angle.
Following X-rays to rule out a fracture, Wolf immediately began a structured rehabilitation program under the direction of Jennifer Rogers, a Piedmont Athens Regional Sports Medicine athletic trainer based at George Walton Academy.
“From the beginning, Zack was committed to doing everything asked of him to get back on the field,” Rogers said. “He came to the training room every day ready to work, and that consistency made a huge difference in his recovery.”
Rehabilitation began with gentle movement and soft tissue work to reduce swelling, followed by resistance band exercises and a gradual progression to weight-bearing activities. One key exercise included cone pickups while balancing on one leg to strengthen the muscles supporting the ankle. Wolf completed approximately four weeks of rehab and continued maintenance exercises through the remainder of the season.
Wolf returned to full play, finished the season strong, and was ultimately named his team’s Most Valuable Player.
“He pushed through every phase of rehab with a great attitude,” Rogers said. “He trusted the process and never cut corners.”
“Zack’s story is exactly what the Athlete of the Month program is about,” said Katie Terrell, athletic trainer and outreach coordinator for Piedmont Athens Regional’s sports medicine programs. “He showed determination, discipline, and leadership, and we’re proud to recognize him for not only overcoming injury, but excelling afterward.”
As the Athlete of the Month, Wolf received a commemorative plaque and will have his picture displayed in the gym at the Oconee Health Campus.
