Columbus, Ga. (June 8, 2026) – Safe Kids Columbus and its many community partners will host a free summer safety event on Friday, June 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital. Free child safety gear and food will be provided for registered attendees.

“Learn about safety topics like water, motor vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian, fire, animal and more. Parent participation in a brief safety presentation is required,” Safe Kids Columbus Director Pam Fair says. “Emergency Department visits and the number of trauma cases increase during the summer months, and our goal is to reduce summer recreational injuries.”

Children can explore public safety equipment and first responder vehicles outside. Inside the hospital, children and parents can visit many safety stations. Use the safety station passport issued at the on-site registration station to pick one item of child safety gear (life jacket, booster seat, bike helmet or home safety kit) while supplies and sizes last (child must be present). Tri-City Veterans of Columbus will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs (while supplies last– child must be present and show a completed safety station passport).

Safe Kids Columbus would like to thank event partners Georgia Power, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire and EMS, UGA Cooperative Extension, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources, Oxbow Meadows, PAWS Humane, Columbus Public Library and Bicycle Columbus.
