Piedmont Walton names Loganville police officer August First Friday Hero for life-saving rescue

Monroe, Ga. (August 7, 2026) — Piedmont Walton Hospital has named Crystal Cintron of the Loganville Police Department as its August 2026 First Friday Hero in recognition of her courageous actions during a house fire that officials say saved a man's life.

On June 23, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., law enforcement and fire personnel responded to reports of a house fire on Bay Creek Road in Loganville. Officer Cintron was the first emergency responder to arrive and saw flames shooting through the roof and smoke pouring from the home.

Once on scene, Officer Cintron saw one person near the front door and another individual trying to escape through a bedroom window obstructed by a window air conditioning unit. She immediately ran to help the trapped man while directing the other occupant to move away from the burning structure. Finding the man unable to free himself, Officer Cintron pulled him over the air conditioning unit and safely out of the home, moving him away from the rapidly spreading flames.

According to fire officials who responded to the incident, the resident would have likely become trapped inside the burning home if not for Officer Cintron's quick actions and determination. Both fire officials and the victim's family have credited her efforts with saving the man's life.

"First responders are called to make difficult decisions in a matter of seconds, and Officer Cintron didn’t hesitate," said Blake Watts, CEO of Piedmont Walton Hospital. "She arrived to find a house in flames and immediately jumped into action, running toward danger to help someone she had never met. Her actions reflect the dedication, courage, and compassion that make Walton County first responders special.”

Officer Cintron joined the Loganville Police Department in November 2024. Colleagues shared that her actions are especially notable give that, at the time of the event, she had a four-month-old baby. Despite the dangers she faced, she instinctively rushed toward the danger to help someone.

Piedmont Walton Hospital's First Friday Heroes program recognizes first responders whose actions exemplify exceptional service to the community. The program honors those who go above and beyond caring for residents of Walton County.
