Piedmont Walton Hospital hosts EMS appreciation luncheon during National EMS Week

Monroe, Ga. (May 21, 2026) — Piedmont Walton Hospital recognized emergency medical services professionals during its annual EMS Appreciation Luncheon held as part of National EMS Week, observed May 17 to 23.

This year’s national theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the critical collaboration among EMS providers and partners across all 911 services, health care, public health, fire services and law enforcement to deliver coordinated, lifesaving care.

Piedmont Walton Hospital partners closely with local EMS agencies to ensure seamless transitions of high-quality care for patients from the moment of first response through hospital treatment and recovery. The luncheon provided an opportunity for hospital staff to thank EMS professionals for their dedication, clinical expertise and commitment to patient care.

In addition to this annual event, Piedmont Walton celebrates first responders year-round through its First Friday Hero program, which recognizes Walton County first responders who go above and beyond in their roles to provide compassionate service to others.

“EMS professionals are an essential extension of our care teams,” said Mickey Gallagher, director of emergency services at Piedmont Walton Hospital. “Their ability to respond quickly, communicate effectively, and work alongside hospital staff plays a vital role in improving outcomes for our patients.”

Each day, Piedmont Walton collaborates with EMS providers on patient care coordination, clinical training and community health initiatives. These partnerships help strengthen emergency response systems and support better outcomes for patients across the region.

National EMS Week was established to recognize the important contributions of EMS professionals who provide urgent, often lifesaving care in communities across the country.
