
Piedmont Walton Auxiliary accepting applications for health care scholarship

Monroe, Ga. (April 20, 2026) — Applications are now being accepted for the Sara D. Hanes Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award for the upcoming academic year for students pursuing education in the medical field offered by the Piedmont Walton Hospital Auxiliary.
The scholarship, established in honor of Sara D. Hanes, founder of the hospital’s auxiliary, supports students enrolled in accredited Georgia colleges or technical schools.
Eligible applicants must be residents of Walton, Athens-Clarke, Newton, Oconee, Rockdale, Gwinnett, Morgan, Barrow or Madison counties and must be studying in a health-care-related field. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Scholarship funds are issued directly to the recipient’s school and may be used only for educational expenses. Financial need is not a consideration in the selection process.
Completed applications, including an official transcript and three letters of recommendation, must be mailed and postmarked by May 31, 2026. Hand-delivered applications will not be accepted.
Mail applications and all supporting documentation to the Piedmont Walton Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee, 2151 West Spring Street, Monroe, GA 30655. Recipients will be notified in writing.
