Piedmont Rockdale strengthens robotic surgery program with second da Vinci system

Conyers, Ga. (September 28, 2026) – Piedmont Rockdale Hospital recently acquired the Intuitive da Vinci 5^® (dV5) surgical system, further expanding the hospital’s advanced technology for minimally invasive surgery. The new system joins the da Vinci Xi^® surgical system, which Piedmont Rockdale added in 2022.

The dV5, Intuitive Surgical’s most advanced robotic-assisted surgical platform, enhances Piedmont Rockdale’s ability to deliver minimally invasive surgical care across multiple specialties. In addition to general surgery, the system will support complex procedures performed by fellowship-trained specialists in colorectal surgery, gynecologic oncology, surgical oncology, and thoracic surgery. Procedures include colon resections, gallbladder removals, gynecologic surgeries, hernia repairs, prostate surgeries, thoracic procedures, and tumor removals.

Building on the capabilities of previous da Vinci systems, the dV5 offers enhanced 3D visualization, greater precision, improved surgeon ergonomics, and advanced technology designed to support surgical decision-making. As with all da Vinci systems, surgeons remain fully in control of the robot throughout every procedure.

Community members are invited to see a demonstration of dV5 on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Piedmont Rockdale, Building A, located at 1412 Milstead Ave. NE in Conyers.
