Piedmont Rockdale, Piedmont Oncology welcome Daniel Donato, MD, expanding access to women's cancer care

Conyers, Ga. (June 9, 2026) – Piedmont Rockdale Hospital and Piedmont Oncology are excited to welcome Daniel Donato, MD, a board-certified, fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist.
With more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Donato cares for women with ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar or vaginal cancers, as well as women with complex benign gynecologic conditions. He has performed more than 2,500 robotic surgical procedures, offering minimally invasive options that support faster recovery and reduced pain.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 100,000 gynecologic cancers will be diagnosed this year in the United States. However, access to specialty care remains limited in many communities and a 2021 study found that 91 percent of U.S. counties do not have a gynecologic oncologist.
“Women facing cancers of the reproductive system deserve expert care, and they shouldn’t have to travel far to get it,” said Piedmont Rockdale CEO Monica Hum, M.D. “Bringing Dr. Donato to our community strengthens our ability to diagnose and care for women with gynecologic cancers and provides more options for patients to receive specialty care close to home.”
Dr. Hum also noted that Black women experience higher death rates from gynecologic cancers compared with white women. Expanding local access to timely screening, diagnosis and treatment is an important step toward addressing persistent disparities in outcomes.
“Piedmont Oncology welcomes Dr. Donato as our seventh board certified gynecologic oncology surgeon practicing within Piedmont. He is an extraordinary physician and will provide expert care to the patients of southeastern metro Atlanta,” said Wally Curran, MD, Whitaker Endowed Chief of Piedmont Oncology.
Dr. Donato earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency and gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Miami and its affiliate, Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Donato is accepting new patients and welcomes most major insurance plans. To learn more or request an appointment, visit Piedmont.org or call 678.806.3330.
