Piedmont Rockdale acquires third hyperbaric chamber, expanding access to advanced wound care

Piedmont Rockdale celebrates the acquisition of a third hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit.

Conyers, Ga. (October 14, 2026) – Piedmont Rockdale Hospital has expanded its advanced wound care services by acquiring a third hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chamber, increasing access to a specialized treatment that helps patients heal complex wounds and other serious medical conditions.

“This investment is a direct response to increased demand for HBOT in our community,” said Piedmont Rockdale CEO Monica Hum, MD. “Timely care is key to successful wound healing, and the additional chamber allows us to treat more patients and reduce wait times.”

The new chamber also offers a larger space, providing a more comfortable experience for patients who have difficulty tolerating smaller, enclosed environments.

HBOT is a noninvasive treatment that delivers 100% oxygen in a pressurized environment. While the patient breathes pure oxygen in the chamber, their blood plasma becomes saturated, carrying 15 to 20 times the normal amount of oxygen to organs and tissue. The increased oxygen supply promotes wound healing and helps the body fight infection.

HBOT can treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Air or gas embolisms
  • Arterial insufficiency
  • Bone infections
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Crush injuries
  • Decompression sickness
  • Delayed radiation injuries
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Exceptional blood loss
  • Gangrene
  • Slow-healing wounds
  • Soft tissue infections

“HBOT can be lifechanging for patients suffering from chronic or difficult-to-heal wounds,” said Jennifer Wolfe, PT, director of service line development and former manager of the wound care clinic at Piedmont Rockdale. “Expanding our capacity with a third chamber enables us to deliver this specialized treatment when it’s needed most.”

Through its comprehensive wound care program, Piedmont Rockdale provides individualized treatment plans that may include advanced wound therapies, physician oversight, nutritional support, and HBOT. Team members work closely with referring providers and primary care physicians to coordinate care and optimize healing outcomes.
