Piedmont Mountainside launches Aquablation therapy, advancing men's health care in North Georgia

Jasper, Ga. (July 6, 2026) — Piedmont Mountainside Hospital has expanded access to advanced urologic care with the launch of its new Aquablation therapy program, offering men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate, an innovative treatment option close to home.
The program officially launched on July 3, when Scott King, DO, successfully performed the hospital’s first two Aquablation procedures. Both patients were treated and discharged the same day, underscoring the efficiency and minimally invasive nature of the procedure.
Aquablation therapy is the first and only robotic-assisted, ultrasound-guided treatment for BPH. The technology uses real-time imaging and a heat-free waterjet to precisely remove excess prostate tissue, providing symptom relief while helping preserve quality of life.
More than 125,000 men nationwide have chosen Aquablation therapy to treat BPH symptoms. Clinical studies have shown the procedure can provide significant and durable symptom relief, including improved urinary flow, with no prostate size limitations.
During the July 3 launch, two patients with prostate sizes of 40 grams and 70 grams respectively underwent successful treatment. The average procedure time—from ultrasound insertion to catheter placement—was approximately 45 minutes. Hospital leaders praised the collaboration among physicians, surgical staff and operating room teams that helped ensure a smooth launch.
Team members quickly adapted to the new technology, independently setting up the system by the second procedure. The launch was further supported by operating room leadership, including Eric Holbert and Alician Lumpkin, who volunteered their time on the Independence Day holiday weekend to assist with the inaugural cases.
“This successful launch reflects the dedication, teamwork and commitment to excellence that define Piedmont Mountainside,” said David Williamson, Executive Director of Patient Services at Piedmont Mountainside. “By investing in innovative technologies like Aquablation, we are ensuring patients in North Georgia have access to advanced treatments without having to travel far from home.”
BPH is one of the most common conditions affecting aging men and can lead to frequent urination, difficulty emptying the bladder, weak urinary flow and disrupted sleep. Aquablation therapy provides a personalized approach to treatment that combines the precision of robotic technology with real-time ultrasound guidance.
The addition of Aquablation therapy further strengthens Piedmont Mountainside’s commitment to expanding access to specialized care and improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
