Piedmont Macon to offer free heart screenings February 25

Macon, Ga. (February 4, 2026) – According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease continues to top the list of causes of death in both the United States and the world, accounting for more than 915,000 deaths in this country each year.
February is American Heart Month, and Piedmont Macon Medical Center is hosting a “Healthy Heart Screening” on Wednesday, February 25 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Macon Mall at 3661 Eisenhower Parkway. The free event is open to the public, but advance registration is required.
The heart screenings will include:
- A fasting lipid blood test to check cholesterol, triglycerides and A1C levels
- Weight and body mass index checks
- Hip-to-waist ratio checks
- Blood pressure screenings
- Ankle brachial index checks
- Stroke risk assessments
“American Heart Month is an important reminder that heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, affecting individuals and families in every community,” said Sirena Fritz, director of Cardiovascular Services at Piedmont Macon Medical Center. “The good news is that many forms of heart disease are preventable. By knowing your risk factors, prioritizing heart-healthy habits and getting regular medical care, we can save lives and strengthen the overall health of Middle Georgia.”
Piedmont Macon clinicians will be on site and available to answer questions at the February 25 event, and Piedmont representatives will also be able to share information with attendees about diabetes, exercise, medications, nutrition and more.
Anyone interested in having bloodwork done at the event must fast (no food or drinks except water) beginning at midnight the night before. A medication list would be helpful for those who want to discuss their medications with the pharmacy team or a physician at the event.
