Stockbridge, Ga. (May 14, 2026) – Nearly two years to the day of Piedmont Henry Hospital breaking ground on a $212 million expansion, the hospital held a grand opening event and ribbon-cutting as the project nears its close. Hospital leaders and staff are currently moving equipment, running drills, and preparing for the first patients to move into rooms in the new tower on June 16.

Piedmont Henry is adding 112 new inpatient rooms, including an expansion of their intensive care unit, a new cafeteria and kitchen, and the ability to continue adding floors to the tower in the coming years. During the construction of the tower, Piedmont Henry also added three operating room suites, bringing the hospital's total to 14. The expansion of the OR will provide more access with shorter wait times for high end surgical procedures. The extra patient rooms will also help improve wait times in the emergency department, which is one of the busiest in the Piedmont system.

“While we have been building this new tower, we’ve also been strengthening who we are as a hospital. Several years ago, Piedmont Henry was designated a Level III Trauma Center, and recently we were also designated a Level III Pediatric Readiness Center,” said Piedmont Henry CEO David Kent. “Our emergency department has transformed into one of the most efficient in the Piedmont system and one that can stabilize and treat patients in their greatest time of need. We couldn’t do it without the partnerships we have with our friends in Henry County emergency services and throughout the county.”

The grand opening event featured community partners from Henry County, local municipalities, and throughout the Piedmont system. After a brief ceremony, guests were invited to take guided tours of some of the new patient floors, as well as the kitchen and dietary department.

“This new tower is sure to make a positive impact on the county and throughout our community,” Kent said. “I truly appreciate everyone who has worked on this project.”
