Fayetteville, Ga. (February 25, 2026) - Nearly 90,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease each year. Parkinson's is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. It can produce symptoms related to movement, as well as symptoms such as depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and cognitive impairments, among others. Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a Parkinson’s support group at the Piedmont Wellness Center that currently meets every two months. The group’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, at noon. The hospital is also hosting Moving Day South, a community walk raising funds for the Parkinson’s Foundation, on March 21 at City Center Park in Fayetteville.

“Last year’s event was fantastic. We had hundreds of people attend, walk the path, and learn about risk factors, treatment options, and the different educational and support programs in the area for those affected by Parkinson’s,” said Evan Johnson, M.D., a neurologist and movement disorder specialist at Piedmont Fayette. “If you’re looking for something to get you moving and inspired on a Saturday morning, this is the event for you.”

Registration at the Moving Day South event begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. The walk is open to participants of all ages and abilities who are welcome to walk around the quarter-mile track as few or as many times as they like. There is no registration fee to participate, but participants are asked to register online at movingdaywalk.org/communitywalkpiedmontfayette.
