Piedmont Columbus welcomes 76 youth volunteers this summer

Columbus, Ga. (June 4, 2026) - The Piedmont Columbus Regional Auxiliary is welcoming 76 high school students into its 2026 class of the Youth Volunteer Program. During a mandatory orientation day on June 3, volunteers got the opportunity to hear from hospital leadership, team members across multiple departments and Auxiliary members.
The goal of the youth volunteer program is to attract and retain high school students ages 14-18 interested in healthcare careers but have never gotten a taste of the industry before. The program officially launches June 15 and runs through July 23. Thirty-five departments across the Midtown and Northside hospital campuses, the John B. Amos Cancer Center and the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital will house the student volunteers.
Students had to complete an application, essay and interview process before being selected to join the prestigious program, which was started in 1965.
