Piedmont Columbus Hosts Second Annual GME Resident Research Symposium

Columbus, Ga. (May 5, 2025)— Piedmont Columbus Regional hosted the second annual Columbus Resident Research Symposium on May 2 at the Columbus Midtown Conference Center. The event featured area physician residents submitting around 30 poster and oral presentations.

The event provided an important opportunity for the next generation of physicians in the greater Columbus area to showcase topical and collaborative findings to better health outcomes for patients in the Chattahoochee Valley.

The symposium highlighted the work from the three Columbus-based residency programs from Piedmont Columbus Regional, Martin Army Community Hospital and St. Francis.

The case presentations and quality process improvement projects were judged based on delivery, poster creativity, originality and presentation. Awards were given to the best research presentations.

Here are the winners: 

  • 1st Place Clinical Case Poster Competition: Synco“PE”: Focus on the POCUS by Hamid, Ruqaiyyah & Atienza, Julianne from Piedmont Columbus Family Medicine Residency Program

  • 1st Place Original Research Poster Competition: Impact of Family Sessions on Timely Patient Discharge, Prognosis and Readmission Rate in an Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit by Bains, Rochaknaveen from St. Francis Psychiatry Program

  • 1st Place Podium Presentation Competition: Carcinoid Syndrome PPI Use by Morzinski, Christian from Martin Army Community Hospital Family Medicine Program
