Cartersville, Ga. (March 6, 2026) - Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center welcomed back some of its smallest former patients and their families on Thursday, March 5, 2026, for a special Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Reunion. Now a little more than a year since the NICU first opened, this inaugural celebration brought together NICU “graduates,” their families, and the clinical team who cared for them during their earliest and often most challenging days.

The event provided an opportunity for parents to reconnect with the nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists who supported their newborns, many of whom spent days or weeks in the hospital’s Level II NICU. It also served as a moment of reflection and gratitude for the dedicated staff who continue to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to the community’s newest arrivals.

Celebrating strength, progress and connection

Piedmont Cartersville’s Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides specialized care for babies born prematurely or with medical complications requiring additional support. The NICU is designed to offer a familycentered environment that supports infant development while giving parents reassurance and guidance during a stressful time.

“Our nurses and providers pour their hearts into caring for these little ones,” said Michelle Anderson, clinical manager of labor and delivery. “Being able to offer specialized neonatal care right here in our community brings comfort to families when they need it most.”

The unit offers continuous monitoring, respiratory support, and individualized care plans tailored to each newborn’s medical needs. A multidisciplinary team—including neonatologists, nurses, and respiratory therapists—works collaboratively to ensure infants receive experienced, attentive care from the moment they arrive.

Bringing families home—and back together

For many families in Bartow County and surrounding communities, the NICU at Piedmont Cartersville plays an essential role during early, uncertain moments. The reunion gave parents a chance to show how much their children have grown, which is especially meaningful for the clinical team.

The event also served as a reminder of the impact of having highquality neonatal services close to home. Families who previously faced long travel times to access advanced newborn care can now remain near their support systems while their babies receive the medical attention they need.

As families posed for photos, shared stories, and reflected on their journeys, the reunion highlighted the bond formed between caregivers and the families they serve—one built on trust, hope, and the highest standards of neonatal care.
