Piedmont Cartersville connects families through breastfeeding support event

Cartersville, Ga. (August 11, 2026) – More than 20 mothers, babies, expectant parents and family members gathered at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center on Aug. 8 to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month during the hospital's Breastfeeding & Brunch event. The community gathering connected local families with education, resources and support while highlighting the importance of breastfeeding and the role community partnerships play in helping families thrive.

Hosted by the hospital's Lactation Services team, the free event featured a light brunch, educational materials, door prizes, family-friendly activities and opportunities for attendees to connect with healthcare professionals and community organizations dedicated to supporting mothers and infants.

The event was held in recognition of National Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding Week, an international campaign focused on strengthening support systems for breastfeeding families. Organizers said the gathering provided a welcoming environment where families could learn from experts, ask questions and build connections with others experiencing similar journeys.

"Seeing more than 20 people come together to celebrate, learn and support one another demonstrates the importance of community for breastfeeding families," said Kelly Costner, director of Women's Services at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center. "Whether families are preparing for the arrival of their first child or navigating the challenges of breastfeeding and pumping, having access to encouragement, education and trusted resources can make all the difference. We were grateful for the opportunity to connect families with the support they need."

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about breastfeeding resources available throughout Northwest Georgia and meet healthcare professionals committed to helping mothers and babies achieve healthy outcomes. The event also emphasized the well-documented health benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers and the importance of strong support networks in helping families meet their feeding goals.

Costner said events such as Breastfeeding & Brunch reflect Piedmont's commitment to supporting families beyond the hospital setting through education, compassionate care and community partnerships.

Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center's Lactation Services program provides education, guidance and support to families before and after childbirth, helping parents navigate their infant feeding journeys with confidence. Through ongoing resources and personalized support, the program works to create healthy beginnings for mothers, babies and families across Northwest Georgia.
