Augusta, Ga. (October 23, 2026) – Thousands of breast cancer survivors and supporters filled the streets of downtown Augusta on October 17 for the Piedmont Augusta Foundation's 26th annual Miracle Mile Breast Cancer Walk, celebrating more than a quarter-century of advancing breast cancer awareness, screening and diagnosis throughout the CSRA.

This year's walk raised more than $365,000 and attracted thousands of participants, continuing a longstanding tradition of community support for lifesaving breast health services.

Despite a venue change prompted by ongoing downtown construction, hundreds of businesses, sponsors and volunteers helped make the event a success. Since its inception in 2001, the Miracle Mile Walk has generated more than $7 million, helping provide breast health screenings for women throughout the CSRA regardless of their ability to pay.

Piedmont Augusta is home to the region's first nationally accredited Breast Health Center. Since 2021, the center has performed more than 121,000 exams and procedures and diagnosed 2,878 cases of breast cancer. The Piedmont Augusta Breast Health Imaging department performs approximately 25,000 procedures annually, including state-of-the-art 3D mammograms administered by certified technologists.

Special tribute was paid to Queenie Jones, founder of the Miracle Mile Walk, who died in January. Jones attended last year's 25th anniversary walk and was recognized for her vision and lasting impact on breast cancer awareness and screening throughout the region.

"The Miracle Mile Walk is more than just a fundraiser. It's a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our patients and community," said Randy Cooper, MD, surgical oncologist with Piedmont Physicians Surgical Oncology at Augusta. "Every dollar raised helps us provide critical screenings and treatments that save lives."

Piedmont Augusta also operates the region's first mobile mammography unit. Since 2002, the unit has traveled more than 300,000 miles and provided more than 95,000 mammograms across the 25-county service area. The mobile unit has helped identify 430 cases of breast cancer, bringing advanced screening technology directly to communities where access to care may be limited.
