Piedmont Atlanta and Piedmont Athens make Newsweek list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals

Atlanta, Ga. (April 27, 2026) – Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center are two of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals, according to Newsweek.
“We are pleased to see our Women’s Services team recognized for the exceptional care they provide women and their families before, during and after childbirth,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta. “We hope this designation, along with our state-of-the-art facilities, will instill confidence in Georgia parents about welcoming their babies here with us.”
The annual list by Newsweek of hospitals providing the highest quality maternity care features 460 facilities across the United States. The list is based on a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and medical professionals, publicly available data from hospital surveys regarding patient experience, as well as data on relevant quality metrics (such as the number of elective cesarean deliveries) from sources including The Joint Commission, a nonprofit hospital accreditation organization, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The publication notes that top-tier institutions in 2026 are distinguished by their integration of ambient AI for clinical documentation, remote patient monitoring to combat rising hypertension, and the expansion of doula and midwifery integration to improve equity in birth outcomes.
"Choosing where to give birth is one of the most important health care decisions a family can make, with lasting implications for both parent and child,” said Newsweek Health Care Editor Alexis Kayser. “This ranking is designed to bring clarity to that choice by highlighting hospitals that deliver strong outcomes, high-quality care and supportive patient experiences.”
Piedmont Atlanta opened the Grass Family Women’s Center in the last few years, which features an upgraded Labor & Delivery unit and an expanded and upgraded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
More than 3,000 babies are born at Piedmont Atlanta and Piedmont Athens Regional, respectively, each year. Learn more about Piedmont’s maternity care.
