Piedmont Athens Regional to host CarFit technician, event coordinator training

Athens, Ga. (July 8, 2026) — Piedmont Athens Regional’s Trauma Services team will host a free CarFit Injury Prevention Training designed to prepare CarFit technicians and event coordinators to conduct CarFit events in their communities. The training is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026.
“CarFit is an important injury prevention program that helps older drivers make simple adjustments that can improve safety, comfort and visibility while driving,” said Eva Carignan, trauma injury prevention and outreach coordinator and trauma educator for Piedmont Athens Regional. “By training additional technicians and coordinators, we can expand access to these valuable assessments and help support safer mobility throughout our communities.”
The hands-on training will cover proper driving position, vehicle safety features and the 12-point CarFit assessment process. Participants will learn how to serve as CarFit technicians, coordinate local events and connect older adults with resources that support safe driving.
Technician training will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by coordinator training from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Services Building, Classroom B, 242 King Avenue, in Athens.
There is no cost to attend. The training is open to participants from Athens and surrounding communities and is intended to help build a stronger network of CarFit technicians and coordinators across the region.
The training is open to health care professionals, emergency medical services personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers and community partners who currently serve older adults or are interested in supporting the older adult population. Participants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
CarFit is an educational program that offers a quick, comprehensive check of how well drivers and their vehicles fit together. Through individual assessments, trained technicians help identify opportunities to improve safety and comfort and reduce the risk of injury.
