Piedmont Athens Regional matches with new residents

Athens, Ga. (April 2, 2026)— Piedmont Athens Regional will add 22 Internal Medicine and 10 Transitional Year Graduate Medical Education residents to its medical staff this summer.

“We are proud to welcome this year’s incoming residents as they continue their medical training,” said Laurel Murrow, MD, Director of the Internal Medicine Program at Piedmont Athens Regional. “Taught by our faculty and community physicians, our programs offer a rigorous, hands on experience that prepares the next generation of doctors for all of us.”

The residency programs at Piedmont Athens Regional offer one to three-year training tracks, and afterwards most physicians remain in Georgia to practice.

Piedmont Athens Regional launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2016 with its first classes of Internal Medicine and Transitional Year residents. Today, residents train under the direct supervision of attending physicians, caring for patients at the 427-bed hospital and at the system’s outpatient Clay Community Care Clinics.
