Piedmont Athens welcomes neurosurgeon Sven Ivankovic, MD

Athens, Ga. (October 22, 2026) – Piedmont Athens Regional has welcomed Sven Ivankovic, MD, to Piedmont Physicians Neurosurgery Athens, expanding access to the highly specialized service. Piedmont Athens now has four neurosurgeons, keeping care closer to home.

Dr. Ivankovic is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, with interests in minimally invasive spine techniques, complex spine disorders, neuro-oncology (including pituitary tumors), cranial and spinal trauma, stereotactic radiosurgery, trigeminal neuralgia and peripheral nerve disorders.

Dr. Ivankovic completed his undergraduate degree at Furman University, where he played NCAA Division I tennis. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria/OSF St. Francis Medical Center.  He then completed a neurosurgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, AO Spine Organization, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
