Piedmont Oncology Radiology Accreditation

Atlanta, Ga. (March 9, 2026) — Piedmont Oncology’s radiation oncology departments at nine centers have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation following a recent review by the American College of Radiology®. The locations are: Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Henry Hospital, Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Piedmont Radiation Oncology Griffin, Piedmont Radiation Oncology Kennesaw and Piedmont West Radiation Oncology.

Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation in the care of patients with cancer. A radiation oncologist is a board-certified oncology physician who deploys a number of radiation-producing techniques to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain or other symptoms. This ACR accreditation provides external validation that radiation oncology facilities deliver high-quality, safe patient care.

"This is a major accomplishment, and this accreditation shows our communities that Piedmont’s radiation oncology teams meet high safety and quality standards and deliver consistently safe patient-centered care," said Whitaker Endowed Chief of Piedmont Oncology Wally Curran, M.D.

The American College of Radiology is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience. The American College of Radiology gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific requirements-based Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported back to the facility and provides the department with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
