Lee County, Ala. (June 3, 2026) — Piedmont Columbus Regional has named Deputy Scott Cone with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office the organization’s First Friday Hero for the month of June.

Deputy Cone was on his way home from work one day when he came across the scene of a car crash. While assessing the scene, he saw one of the motorists involved in the accident was experiencing a medical emergency. He immediately began administering CPR to that person, while simultaneously coordinating with dispatch until EMS arrived on scene. The swift and heroic actions of Deputy Cone directly contributed to saving that person’s life and their recovery weeks following the crash.

Piedmont Columbus Regional created the First Friday Hero program in 2016 to recognize first responders and everyday heroes each month who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

“Their line of work is often a thankless job, and we want to make the community aware of what our local heroes do to make our area a safer place,” said Piedmont Columbus Regional CEO Scott Hill.

A ceremony with Deputy Cone and leadership from Piedmont and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 9 a.m. CDT at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to commend him for his response. His story is also featured throughout the hospital on commemorative posters and Piedmont Columbus Regional’s social media pages.
