Coleman Cavoretto named Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Athlete of the Month

Athens, Ga. (April 27, 2026) – Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine has named Coleman Cavoretto, a junior multi-sport athlete at Bethlehem Christian Academy, as its Athlete of the Month in recognition of his perseverance, leadership and positive attitude following an injury and challenging rehabilitation process.
Cavoretto, who plays football and baseball and competes in track, suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) during a football game in October, an injury that ended his playing season. He underwent what is commonly called “Tommy John” surgery in November and soon after began a structured rehabilitation program focused on long-term recovery and a return to the field.
His Piedmont care team included orthopedic surgeon Rob Willson, M.D., and Rosanna Jaramillo, head athletic trainer at Bethlehem Christian.
Despite his injury, Cavoretto remained a steady presence on his football team, using his leadership skills to support his teammates from the sidelines and keep morale high through the remainder of the season and the playoffs.
“Even when he couldn’t be on the field, Coleman chose to stay fully engaged as a leader,” Jaramillo said. “He didn’t let his injury define him, and his mindset throughout rehab was outstanding.”
Following surgery, Cavoretto progressed steadily through rehabilitation and was cleared for weight room activities, hitting and base running for baseball. While he is not yet allowed to throw, he is currently participating in baseball in a modified role and also competing in track.
A torn UCL does not always require surgery and treatment varies based on the severity of the injury and the individual athlete. A full recovery and return to competitive throwing typically range from 12 to 18 months.
“Coleman’s commitment to rehabilitation and his positive approach during a long recovery process demonstrates what the Athlete of the Month program represents,” said Katie Terrell, athletic trainer and outreach coordinator for Piedmont Athens Regional’s sports medicine programs. “He continues to show resilience, focus and leadership, both on and off the field.”
As the Athlete of the Month, Cavoretto received a commemorative plaque and will have his photo displayed in the gym at the Oconee Health Campus.
Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine provides comprehensive orthopedic and sports medicine care for athletes of all ages and skill levels, with locations in Athens and Monroe.
