Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a neurological condition involving the brain in which clusters of nerve cells and neurons signal abnormally and produce seizures. Most patients with epilepsy are effectively treated with medication, and a detailed neurological evaluation is necessary to choose the right medication or treatment for each individual patient. This evaluation and treatment requires neurological expertise.

Up to one-third of patients diagnosed with epilepsy continue to have seizures despite taking medications. In these cases, the expertise of an epileptologist, a neurologist with specialty training in the management of epilepsy and seizures, and specialty testing is frequently necessary.

At the Piedmont Neurosciences, we offer a wide range of testing and medical services that are designed to evaluate and manage even the most complex epilepsy and seizure conditions.

There are affiliated neurosurgeons to provide surgical evaluation and treatment when necessary for epilepsy.
