Sacred Space Dedication

Piedmont Athens Regional AuxiliaryIn 1988, the Chapel at Athens Regional Medical Center was given in memory of Daymon E. Jordan by his wife. During the Piedmont Athens Regional Main Tower Campaign in 2022, Kathryn and Carl Nichols generously contributed a gift to name this space and its adjacent garden, with a request to continue honoring the memory of Mr. Jordan. Following the completion of the Main Tower campaign and the renovation of the Sacred Space, the Piedmont Athens Regional Auxiliary partnered with local artists to bring warmth and character to the area, creating a welcoming environment for reflection and solace.

Helen Hudson Mills—a beloved community leader and renowned stained-glass artist—designed, crafted, and generously donated the stained-glass panels that now grace the Sacred Space. She also contributed a piano, further enriching the atmosphere. Helen’s longstanding service includes roles on both the Hospital Authority of Athens-Clarke County and the Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center Board of Directors. Additional artistic contributions were made by Mary Barton Prickett, an accomplished local artist whose work reflects her love of nature, travel, and architecture. Her pieces were made possible through the generosity of the Piedmont Athens Regional Auxiliary, whose support helped transform the Sacred Space into a true sanctuary for patients, families, and staff.
