Piedmont Athens Regional teen volunteers

Teen volunteers

Piedmont Athens Regional is proud to host 35 outstanding 16- and 17-year-olds this summer. Our teens are volunteering in 17 areas throughout the hospital and Oconee Health Campus.

If you are interested in volunteering with us next summer, we would love to have you apply. Beginning summer of 2027, our teen program will only be open to teens with a 3.0+ GPA (unweighted) from our 17-county service area as well as children and grandchildren of our staff and providers. Our service area includes the following counties:

• Athens-Clarke
• Oconee
• Oglethorpe
• Madison
• Jackson
• Barrow
• Walton
• Morgan
• Green
• Taliaferro
• Wilkes
• Elbert
• Hart
• Franklin
• Banks
• Stephens
• Habersham

The application for teens will open in mid-January and close in mid-March. The application will ask for information about you, your tentative summer availability, and any relevant paid or volunteer experience. You will also be asked to write a brief essay on your interest in healthcare and what you hope to gain from volunteering with us. Contact information for your school guidance counselor (to confirm your GPA and give limited feedback) as well as 2 non-familial references will be required when you complete the application. One of your references must be a teacher. The other can be an additional teacher, a mentor, an employer/supervisor, or someone else who can speak to your character and work ethic.

Piedmont Athens Regional Volunteer Services will reach out to your references. Virtual interviews will be scheduled with selected applicants.

To participate in the teen volunteer program, you must be able to:

  • Attend a mandatory orientation session (3 options for attendees will be available).
  • Volunteer one 4-hour shift per week (the same day and time each week) for at least 6 of the 8 weeks of the program (June and July).
  • Pay a $25 program fee.
  • Complete a TB blood test.
  • Provide proof of Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella vaccinations or a titers test showing immunity.
