Atlanta, Ga. (November 5, 2024) – The Piedmont Community is greatly saddened by the passing of Bernie Marcus, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family during this difficult time. Bernie’s visionary philanthropy, and that of The Marcus Foundation, has played an integral role in transforming Piedmont into a destination for healthcare across the state of Georgia and beyond.

When asked to comment on his gift to establish the Marcus Heart and Vascular Center in 2016, he said, “The new facility will enable Piedmont to achieve goals that would have only remained dreams. I look forward to the positive impact these changes will have on the future of health of this great community.”

Years later, his vision has become reality, and patients across the state are able to receive innovative cardiac care at Piedmont because of this vision. Bernie will be missed, but we know that his legacy at Piedmont and across the Atlanta community will live on for generations to come.
