John B. Amos Cancer Center to Offer Free Colon Cancer Screenings

Columbus, Ga. (February 28, 2024)— In partnership with the Piedmont Columbus Regional Mobile Unit and West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition, the John B. Amos Cancer Center will host free colon cancer screenings throughout the month of March.

“Screenings are recommended for adults age 50 and up and age 45 for those with a high-risk family history,” said John B. Amos Cancer Center Hematologist and Oncologist Dr. Suresh Nukala.

The free screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to Noon at the locations/days below (VIEW/PRINT FLYER):

  • MercyMed Mission (3679 Steam Mill Road) on Wednesdays in March
  • MercyMed (3702 2nd Avenue) on Thursdays in March
  • John B. Amos Cancer Center (1831 5th Avenue) on Saturday, March 23

You may be eligible for a free at-home test– no colonoscopy necessary. Call the John B. Amos Cancer Center at 706-320-8618 to get prescreened. You can pickup a screening kit at the cancer center via a drive-thru format.

“The Fecal Immunochemical Test measures hemoglobin in the stool. It uses a small stool sample that the patient provides in a special container,” said John B. Amos Cancer Center Oncology Outreach Coordinator Tenetta Holt. “All patients have to do is send it back to the lab. This test may save your life.”
