Fayetteville, Ga. (January 18, 2024) –Mitzie-Ann Davis, M.D., MPH, FACOG, a gynecologic oncologist and surgeon at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, was recently honored by hospital leaders for performing her 1,000th robotic assisted surgery using the da Vinci system.
Piedmont Fayette has been using robotic assisted surgery since 2010. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions; from gynecologic malignancies, uterine fibroids, hyperplasia and endometriosis in women to prostate cancer and urological conditions in men. The technological advancements in the years since have made robotic assisted procedures more common. Robotic assisted surgery gives the surgeon better vision and more precise control for complex operations, while also leading to smaller incisions and faster recovery periods for the patient.
“Reaching a milestone like this is very special,” said Dr. Davis. “It speaks volumes about the teamwork and collaboration of the fantastic surgical services department at Piedmont Fayette, and it means that we have made a positive impact on thousands of lives in this community.
Piedmont Fayette recently earned accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. Dr. Davis was one of nine surgeons at the hospital to achieve the designation of Surgeon of Excellence. Overall, Piedmont currently has the largest fleet of robots and uses robotic-assisted surgery more than any healthcare system in Georgia, with locations across Georgia and over 175 robotically trained physicians.
“I’d like to congratulate Dr. Davis and the surgical service team for this achievement,” said Steve Porter, CEO of Piedmont Fayette. “Our patients count on us to provide safe, high-quality care, close to home. Reaching this milestone is a testament to their hard work and dedication to this community.”
