Piedmont Transplant Institute Opens New Clinic in Columbus

Piedmont Transplant Institute has opened a new satellite clinic in Columbus, providing patients in rural Georgia with access to sub-specialty care.

The Piedmont Transplant Institute at Piedmont Columbus Regional – Kidney will operate monthly for new patient consultations, pre-transplant and post-transplant care. To refer a patient or make an appointment, please call 404-605-4600.

“We are very excited about the new transplant clinic and how it will allow our patients to receive Piedmont Transplant’s high-quality, patient-centered care closer to home,” said Scott Hill, CEO of Piedmont Columbus Regional. “This clinic will create a new access point into Piedmont’s transplant program, and it will certainly make a positive difference for patients in Columbus who are in need of these services.”

Piedmont Transplant Institute opened its first satellite location in 2007 to bring kidney, liver and pancreas transplant services to patients who live outside of the greater Atlanta area.

Piedmont Transplant Institute has satellite clinics in Albany, Athens, Dalton, Fayetteville, Macon, Marietta, Savannah and Preston. Piedmont now serves communities that represent 70 percent of Georgia’s population.

“The satellite clinic in Columbus expands Piedmont Transplant’s reach and will create opportunities to better serve those in need in west Georgia and East Alabama,” said Eric Gibney, M.D., co-program Director of Piedmont Transplant Institute.

Piedmont ranks in the top 15 percent in the country in organ transplant volumes and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital ranks among the nation’s busiest non-academic transplant hospitals.

Piedmont Transplant continues to maintain outstanding outcomes for liver disease survival, kidney and liver transplant outcomes, and maintains key expertise in living donation. More than 40 percent of kidneys transplanted at Piedmont come from living donors, a key factor for better long-term outcomes. Since 1986, Piedmont Transplant has been recognized as one of the nation’s most successful transplant programs, performing nearly 4,800 transplant surgeries for kidney, liver, pancreas and heart recipients.
