Piedmont Newton Completes Emergency Department Expansion and Renovation

Covington, Ga. (Jun3 14, 2019) Construction is complete on the Piedmont Newton Emergency Department expansion and renovation. The three-phase project consisted of a 5,000-square-foot expansion and 12,000-square-foot renovation of the existing emergency room area. The hospital partnered with McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. to complete the work.

“Increasing the number of treatment rooms and adding state-of-the-art equipment to the emergency department is a tremendous benefit to the community,” said, Eric Bour, M.D., CEO for Piedmont Newton Hospital. “We were proud to partner with McCarthy in our ongoing effort to provide the best care in a comfortable space for everyone who comes to our Emergency Department.”

The expansion and renovation included the addition of a triage area and new waiting room as well as a 4,500-square-foot addition to the ground level of the existing emergency department. The new area houses two nursing stations, 16 patient treatment rooms, a new ambulance entrance and fully-equipped trauma room. Additionally, McCarthy renovated all existing areas of the emergency room. McCarthy began work on the emergency center in October 2017 and undertook all of the the work while the hospital remained fully functional. The project cost an estimated $9.5 million of which $4 million was generated through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Taxes (SPLOST) revenue.
