Nelson Oyesiku, M.D., Named Piedmont’s Chief of Neurosciences

Atlanta, Ga. (November 21, 2025) – Nelson Oyesiku, M.D., PhD, FACS, most recently a Professor and Chair, Department of Neurological Surgery and Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has been named Chief of Neurosciences for Piedmont.

Dr. Oyesiku is internationally recognized in pituitary medicine and surgery. He has performed over 4,700 pituitary tumor operations, was co-director of the Emory Pituitary Center, and served on multiple state, regional, national, and international committees for all the major neurosurgical organizations in the world.

“We are fortunate to have a leader like Dr. Oyesiku serving as our Chief of Neurosciences,” said Charles L. Brown III, CEO of Piedmont’s Physician Enterprise. “Not only does he bring expertise in neurosciences to our program, with close to 200 scientific articles or works to his name, he will also help us bring the excellence of Piedmont Neurosciences to a next level of care for all of Georgia.”

Dr. Oyesiku received an NIH K08 Award and Faculty Development Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was a recipient of an NIH R01 award and PI of the NIH/NINDS R25 Research Education Program for Residents and Fellows in Neurosurgery. He is also known for his research in neurosciences, which he will continue through the Piedmont Research Institute.
