Piedmont Augusta Celebrates 25 Years of Impact at Miracle Mile Breast Cancer Walk

Augusta, Ga. (November 5, 2025) – Thousands of survivors and their supporters filled the streets of downtown Augusta on Oct. 18 for Piedmont Augusta Foundation’s 25th annual Miracle Mile Walk, celebrating a quarter-century of impact in breast cancer awareness and diagnosis. This year’s walk raised over $406,000 and drew 15,000 attendees, continuing the tradition of strong community engagement and support for lifesaving breast health services.

This year marked a special milestone—the 25th anniversary of the Miracle Mile Walk. Founders Queenie Jones, Pam Anderson, Amy Dorrill and other early champions of the event were in attendance, celebrating the walk’s legacy and continued impact on the community. Since its inception in 2001, the walk has netted $6.4 million, making lifesaving breast health screenings accessible to all women in the CSRA, regardless of ability to pay.

More than 900 businesses and individuals supported this year’s walk, alongside hundreds of volunteers and sponsors. 181 fundraising teams competed for the 1st place honors, with WIN Walkers coming out on top with $14,659.  Miracle Mile Walk cofounder Pam Anderson and team raised $7,725 for 2nd place, and Aurubis Richmond on a Mission raised $5,800 for third place.

Piedmont Augusta is home to the region’s first nationally accredited Breast Health Center. Since 2021, the center has performed over 100,000 exams or procedures, diagnosing 2,589 cases of breast cancer. The Piedmont Augusta Breast Health Imaging department performs approximately 33,000 procedures annually, offering state-of-the-art 3D digital mammograms administered by certified technicians.

"The Miracle Mile Walk is more than just a fundraiser — it’s a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our patients and community. Every dollar raised helps us provide critical screenings and treatments that save lives," said Randy Cooper, M.D., a Surgical Oncologist with Piedmont Physicians Surgical Oncology at Augusta, who specializes in breast surgery.

Piedmont Augusta also operates the region’s first mobile mammography unit, which has traveled over 300,000 miles since 2002, performing more than 90,000 mammograms across cities and towns in the 25-county region. The mobile unit has helped uncover 404 cases of breast cancer, bringing advanced screening technology directly to communities in need.
